I WASN’T ALWAYS MY OWN BOSS

I had just returned from maternity leave to my position as a microbiologist in the U.S. Army.

Against the office wall I saw stacks of newly printed field manuals. Manuals I had spent the entirety of pregnancy carefully crafting.

I ran over to inspect the heavy books. As I flipped through the crisp new pages my heart began to sink. The author credit only noted my superior male officers. I’d poured months of hard work into this manual while my belly grew and feet swelled.

My name was nowhere to be found…
